Alocasia Black Velvet Gold Variegated

This is a tissue culture grown Alocasia Black Velvet Gold Variegated. The plant features dark, velvety foliage with golden yellow variegation that is genetically stable and unique to each leaf. It is a compact grower, typically reaching around 25 to 35 cm in height, forming a tight rosette of thick, leathery leaves on short petioles. Native to the forests of Borneo, this species naturally favours high humidity, bright indirect light and fast draining substrates.

The recommended growing method is semi hydro (pon), which suits this plant well given its preference for airy root conditions and consistent moisture without waterlogging. A chunky aroid mix is the next best option. Avoid keeping the roots sitting in water. Feed lightly with a diluted balanced fertiliser during the growing season and reduce watering over winter, as this species can enter a period of dormancy. Humidity of 60% or above is ideal. Keep temperatures above 15°C and avoid cold draughts. This plant is toxic if ingested, so keep it away from pets and children.
